THREAT TO LIFE: PJH Uburu Workers Face Intimidation And Harassment

The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria (PCN), has again decried the incessant intimidation and harassment faced by the workers at Presbyterian Joint Hospital Uburu in Ebonyi State of Nigeria.
PCN said that after the invasion of the hospital premises by some youths from Uburu with an alleged obstruction from the government of Ebonyi State, workers are now living in perpetual fear of harassment, and intimidation which threatens their lives.
“Sequel to the last invasion of the hospital premises of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria by youths form Uburu with an alleged obstruction from the government of Ebonyi State, workers are now living a perpetual fear of harassment, and intimidation. Over the last seven (7) days some of the under listed incidence has occurred, for which we need guidance moving forward”, PCN noted and chronicled the various incidents that occurred as follows:
1. A staff of the hospital on redeployment to our outstation at Ukawu, was detained and manhandled for over three (3) hours by these youths for no just course.
2. A medical official at the facility was manhandled within the hospital premises while on his way home, which is also within the hospital.
3. An NYSC nurse who is on primary assignment with Presbyterian Joint Hospital, Uburu was harassed, and his life threatened by some of the youths.
4 There was an attempt by the youths to tow the hospital vehicles from the mechanic workshop.
5. Doctors are now afraid to come out at night to see patient(s) for fear of being harassed.
The PCN expressed fear that the youths are intentionally stationed in the hospital for reasons yet unkonwn to among challenges that are putting strains on the daily running of the hospital.
PCN pleaded on behalf of the entire staffs and management of the hospital for urgent assistance and guidance on the how to manage the situation.
