Yaoundé, Cameroon — Pope Leo XIV has arrived in Cameroon on an apostolic visit, marking a significant moment for the Catholic faithful and the wider African continent.
The Pontiff was received at the Nsimalen International Airport in Yaoundé by government officials, Catholic bishops, and thousands of enthusiastic worshippers who gathered to welcome him with songs, prayers, and traditional displays.
During his address shortly after arrival, Pope Leo emphasized the urgent need for peace, unity, and social justice across Africa, urging leaders and citizens alike to work together in overcoming divisions and promoting human dignity.
“Africa is a continent of hope and resilience. I encourage all people of goodwill to build bridges of unity, reject violence, and uphold the dignity of every human person,” the Pope said.
The visit comes at a time when Cameroon continues to face internal challenges, including security concerns in parts of the country. The Pope acknowledged these difficulties and called for dialogue, reconciliation, and respect for human rights.
While in Cameroon, Pope Leo is scheduled to hold a series of high-level engagements, including meetings with President Paul Biya, religious leaders, youth groups, and members of civil society.
He will also celebrate a major open-air Mass expected to draw tens of thousands of worshippers from across the country and neighboring nations, reinforcing the Catholic Church’s commitment to spiritual renewal and community development.

The visit is also expected to highlight key issues such as poverty alleviation, climate change, interfaith harmony, and the role of the Church in promoting education and healthcare.
Catholic leaders in Cameroon have described the visit as historic, noting that it will strengthen faith, encourage national unity, and draw global attention to the country’s social and humanitarian challenges.
Pope Leo’s trip to Cameroon is part of his broader pastoral mission to engage with communities around the world, particularly in regions facing social and economic difficulties, while promoting messages of compassion, peace, and solidarity.
