We Will Work and We Will Play, says Minister As She Organized Party

While play is crucial for a child’s development, it is also beneficial for people of all ages. Play can add joy to life, relieve stress, supercharge learning, and connect you to others and the world around you. Play can also make work more productive and pleasurable.

Constant work without rest or relaxation is harmful to one’s personal life and well-being.

The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barr. Uju Kennedy made this assertion at the New Year Party for Children organized by her administration on Tuesday in Abuja.

Kennedy added that more than just a chance to have fun, play is serious business when it comes to a child’s health and development.

The Minister who expressed concern over children said children’s rights cannot be taken for granted.

“Children’s rights are violated all over the world, That is why we must continue to invest massively in education and youth care and fight harder than ever against child maltreatment” she said.

The Minister further emphasised the importance of raising children properly into responsible adults, calling on parents to give birth to only kids they can cater for in order to totally eradicate the menace of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) in the society.

She explained that it was necessary that every child should be provided for.

” Being a house help is not a crime but maltreating the child who has under taken house help job is a crime” she added

She reminded that the mobile court will help to tackle violence against women and children.

The Minister assured that her administration will continue to organize party for the children especially in Easter, Children’s Day and Independence Day

The Minister joined in the play with children as they dance, swing and make presentations and she was impressed to see how happy the children were and how excellently they made presentation on the girl child

In her kind gesture, the Minister gifted cash, food and school bags to all the children present at the party

In her goodwill message, the Chairman House Committee on Women Affairs Kafilat Ogbara, explained that children are not exempt from duties towards society, as well as they have legal rights that watch over them. But just as adults are aware of the role we have as individual beings in society, children must learn that they also have an important role, that they are part of a social whole and what, so that everything works correctly and rights are respected of all, it is essential that they themselves fulfill their social duty.

She advised the students not to let anyone hinder their potential rather, they should strive to make their families and the country proud through their accomplishments.

She further admonished the students to be prayerful, obedient, determined, hardworking and avoid negative peer pressure

Speaking also, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Asma’u Muhammad expressed believe that the younger generation is capable of breaking the world’s limit because they are the leaders of tomorrow

“We must not forget that those who are children today, will tomorrow be the adults who will have to take forward the economy of a country. Those who will be in charge of working for social welfare, those who will fight for a better world.”

She assured that Gombe State Government domesticated child rights law for the protection of the children in the state

She affirmed that her Ministry will reciprocate the “we will work and we will play gesture” in Gombe state

Speaking to NewsDotAfrica, a parent Mustapha Salifu Makolo said the staff at Ministry of Women Affairs have created a positive and nurturing environment, ensuring the experience for our youngest learners there is not just educational, but fun and exciting.

“This shows we are striving to give our children the very best start to their education journey and we hope this gesture continues”
