The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, today met with a high-powered team from the Nigerian Air Force over the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations.

The NAF team was led by Air Vice Marshal HB Abubakar, who stated that the Nigerian Air Force has a robust policy for research and development.

He said the Nigerian Air Force seeks at all times to improve its manpower capabilities, and as such, it collaborates with tertiary and research institutions in addition to its many research centres to drive its research and development policy.

The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the NAF for collaborating with universities and polytechnics, thus developing local capacity for spare parts manufacturing.

The MoU between UI and the NAF was signed in 2018 . Both parties agreed to establish academic and scholarly cooperative linkage and collaboration that would be of mutual benefit to the two establishments. Both parties also agreed to extend their cooperation to academic areas that can support each other’s mandates and promote the scientific and technological development of the two organisations as well as the nation.

The MoU sought to explore the areas of artificial intelligence and robotics by use of software; aerodynamics; GIS and remote sensing, and conversion of Jatropha algae fuel into jet fuel among other specific areas of cooperation.

A high powered Committee has been set up to revise the existing MoU and come up with another MoU within a very short period.
