Transporters for Tinubu 2027 Launch Drivers’ Care Initiative Drug and Eye Test in Abuja

Abuja, February 26, 2026 – The group, Transporters for Tinubu 2027, has officially launched its Drivers’ Care Initiative, a nationwide support programme aimed at improving the welfare, health and sustainability of commercial drivers across Nigeria.
The initiative, which will run in six locations at the FCT, will hold from February 26 to March 6, 2026, is designed to uplift hardworking transporters by providing essential health services, financial support and sensitization programmes within the transportation sector.
Key Components of the Initiative
The Drivers’ Care Initiative will feature:
Free Eye Tests and Eye Care Services for commercial drivers; Sensitization programmes on drug abuse, promoting safety and responsible driving; Soft loan facilities through the Transporters Cooperative Society to support drivers’ economic stability.
National coordinator, Transporters for Tinubu 2027, Prince Dr. Segun Obayendo while speaking on Thursday at the Jabi Park in Abuja during the flag-off of the initiative, said the programme would advance safety on the nation`s roads.
The national coordinator said the programme would be organised concurrently in the various states for the next few months across the country.
Obayendo urged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to continue to play their crucial functions for the development of the nation.
According to him, road safety is a shared responsibility, and ought to be taken seriously by everyone.
The National Coordinator described the programme as part of a broader commitment to strengthen the transportation sector and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 vision.
Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the Chairman of RTEAN, FCT Chapter, Alhaji Musa Saldu, emphasized the importance of prioritizing drivers’ health and wellbeing to enhance road safety and service delivery nationwide.
Also lending support to the initiative is the Mandate Secretary for Transport, FCT, Dr. Elechi Chinedum, alongside the Vice Chairman, FCT NARTO, Alhaji Umar Abubakar, who commended the collaborative effort among transport unions and stakeholders.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), representative was there to give talks on substance abuse, while KKMAT Eye Clinic personnel gave some insight on how to take care of the eyes and presented drugs, eye glasses to participants after relevant medical investigation.
Chinwe Uwaegbute, Programme Coordinator for Transporters for Tinubu 2027, said the strong turnout of transport union members demonstrated their shared commitment to improving safety, welfare, and professionalism in Nigeria’s transport sector. She noted that transportation is vital to national development but stressed that drivers often face health challenges, fatigue, and welfare issues that affect road safety.
“To address these concerns, the initiative focuses on health awareness, responsible driving, and sustainable welfare support. Key activities include eye screening, drug abuse sensitization, and wellness advocacy, aimed at promoting alertness, healthier drivers, and safer roads across the country”, she stated in an interview with Journalists.
