TCN Foils Attempted Theft at Bauchi Transmission Substation, Recovers Tower Components

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has foiled an attempted theft at its 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi, recovering critical transmission tower components and a vehicle allegedly used by the suspects.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the incident occurred at about 9:34 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, when security personnel on duty intercepted suspected vandals attempting to remove vital tower members from the facility.
The suspects reportedly abandoned the operation and fled upon sighting the security guards.
A subsequent inspection of the area led to the recovery of 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale, and a white pickup truck believed to have been used in the attempted theft.
TCN said the recovered items, including the vehicle, have been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation.
The company confirmed that no equipment was successfully stolen and no injuries were recorded during the incident.
Commending the swift response and vigilance of its security personnel, TCN said their prompt action prevented what could have resulted in damage to critical electricity transmission infrastructure.
The company also urged residents of host communities to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office, stressing that protecting transmission infrastructure is a shared responsibility.
