TCN Clarifies Status of 330kV Transmission Lines Supplying Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has dismissed claims that the recent reduction in electricity allocation to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) was caused by the tripping of 330kV transmission lines supplying Abuja from the Shiroro Transmission Substation.

TCN, in a statement issued by its management on Wednesday, said the claim contained in an AEDC publication dated August 26 was inaccurate and misleading.

AEDC had informed its customers of prevailing electricity supply constraints and attributed a reduction in its power allocation from approximately 641 megawatts (MW) to 314MW to the alleged tripping of transmission lines supplying the Abuja axis from Shiroro.

However, TCN said the reduction in AEDC’s allocation was caused by low generation on the national grid, rather than any fault or tripping of its transmission lines.

“Contrary to the information contained in AEDC’s publication, all 330kV transmission lines within Abuja Region are currently in circuit,” TCN said, stressing that no tripping of the 330kV transmission lines supplying the Abuja axis had occurred as alleged.

The transmission company further stated that the reported reduction in AEDC’s allocation, and the resulting load shedding across its feeders, could therefore not be attributed to any alleged tripping of TCN’s 330kV transmission lines within the Abuja Region.

TCN urged stakeholders to ensure accurate and clear dissemination of information concerning developments on the national power grid.

The company reiterated its commitment to efficiently transmitting available bulk electricity across the country while maintaining the stability, reliability and integrity of Nigeria’s transmission network.
