Ahead of the Triennial National Delegates Congress scheduled to hold in Kaduna from August 26 to 29, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has constituted a three-member Media Sub-Committee to coordinate media activities during the period.
This is contained in a press release signed on Sunday 23rd August, 2026, by the Secretary-General of SWAN, Comrade Ikenna Okonkwo
The committee is chaired by Samuel Ahmadu, Managing Editor of SavidNews and NigeriaFootball.ng, while Austine Agbo Emmanuel, Blueprint Correspondent and Assistant Secretary of the SWAN Kaduna State Chapter, will serve as Secretary. Tunde Liadi of The Nation Newspaper and Sporting Life completes the three-member committee.
According to the SWAN National Secretariat, the appointment is part of efforts to ensure effective media coverage, content generation and dissemination before, during and after the congress.
The congress, with the theme, “Harnessing the Power of Sports and the Media for National Development, Youth Empowerment and Global Competitiveness,” is expected to bring together sports journalists and delegates from across Nigeria.
Participants are expected to deliberate on the future of sports journalism, professional development, welfare, digital transformation and the broader contribution of sports media to national development.
The Media Sub-Committee has been mandated to coordinate content creation and dissemination across print, online, television and radio platforms, as well as provide relevant and timely content for SWAN’s official website.
It will also source and develop content around the congress and relevant national, continental and international sports issues, particularly those relating to sports development and elite competition.
The committee’s assignment takes immediate effect and will extend beyond the congress, with members expected to maintain high standards of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism.
SWAN urged members of the media and other stakeholders to support the committee in ensuring comprehensive coverage of the congress and effective dissemination of its outcomes.
The association expressed optimism that the Kaduna congress would be successful and further strengthen sports journalism while contributing to the development of Nigerian sports.
