Rescued Trafficking Victim Returns from Cairo as NiDCOM Raises Fresh Alarm

Abuja, April 26, 2026 — The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has received another Nigerian victim of human trafficking and labour exploitation, Mrs. Busola Victoria Alale, who arrived in the country from Cairo on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

Alale, a 41-year-old indigene of Ogun State, was received at the Lagos airport by the Head of NiDCOM’s Lagos Office, Mr. Dipo Odebowale, on behalf of the Commission’s Chairman/CEO, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

Her return was facilitated by an anonymous philanthropist who responded to her distress call and funded her trip back to Nigeria, covering expenses reportedly running into millions of naira.

Recounting her experience, Alale described harrowing conditions while working as a domestic staff in Cairo. She said she endured long hours of labour, often starting work at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until 4:00 a.m. the next day without rest, moving between multiple employers daily, while her trafficker allegedly collected all her earnings.

Before travelling, she said she ran a small frozen foods business that collapsed, pushing her to seek opportunities abroad. She, however, expressed regret over the decision, noting that the promises made to her were misleading.

Alale cautioned Nigerian youths, particularly women, against falling for enticing job offers abroad, especially in domestic work, which may expose them to exploitation.

She expressed gratitude to NiDCOM, the anonymous donor, and the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner in Cairo, Ambassador Adesoye, for facilitating her rescue and safe return.

The Commission reiterated its warning against irregular migration and unverified employment opportunities abroad, urging Nigerians to always seek proper guidance through official channels. It also stressed the need for sustained efforts to expose and prosecute human traffickers.
