The Cross River State Government’s joint operation security team, “Operation Akpakwu” has come to clear the air on the death of a University of Cross River State, UNICROSS student.

The 400-Level student of the institution named Austin Norwich Kingsley was gunned down by the law enforcement agency and the security agency have come out to take responsibility for his death .

It was reported that security operatives shot dead Kingsley, a student of the Department of Computer Science on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the Calabar Campus, close to the Department of Biological Sciences.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, February 11, 2023 by the Permanent Secretary on Special Services, Dr Alfred Mboto, the student was not killed by the Department of State Services (DSS) as claimed by the misleading reports in some national dailies and social media platforms. Adding that Kingsley was not, an “innocent student” as reports had portrayed him.

“To set the record straight, the alleged student is known by the pseudo name, ‘Valley’.

“However, his real name is Austin Norwich Kingsley and he is a notorious cultist, armed robber and kidnapper who has been on the wanted list of security agents for a long time.

“Valley was wanted for the murder of a fellow student, kidnapping and armed robbery for almost a year.

“He was on a mission to commit a heinous crime in the institution when he was intercepted by the State Government Owned joint security Operation team code-named ‘Operation Akpakwu’ while on patrol.

“On sighting the joint security team, Valley opened fire on the operatives who returned with superior firepower. In the ensuing exchange, he was gunned down.

“This clarification becomes necessary so as to put a lie to the allegation that DSS operatives wholly neutralised valley.

“it is worthy to note that the Operation Akpakwu is comprised of the Police, Army, Navy, Air Force, DSS and Civil Defence operatives.
