The National Sports Commission (NSC) has ramped up preparations for the maiden edition of the National Intermediate Games with a comprehensive inspection and stakeholders’ engagement programme taking place in Lagos State from June 2 to June 4, 2026.
According to a press release signed by Dr. (Mrs.) Kehinde Ajayi, FCAI, ANIPR
Director, Information and Public Relations, today, the exercise forms part of the Commission’s strategic efforts to ensure seamless planning and successful delivery of the landmark competition, which is designed to strengthen the nation’s athlete development pathway and deepen grassroots sports participation.
A joint delegation comprising officials of the NSC and members of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) will conduct detailed assessments of competition venues, training facilities, accommodation centres and other critical infrastructure designated for the Games. The inspection is expected to provide first-hand evaluation of operational readiness and identify areas requiring further attention ahead of the event.
As part of the visit, the delegation will hold a series of technical and consultative meetings with the Local Organising Committee (LOC), the Lagos State Sports Commission and other key stakeholders to review preparations and align implementation strategies.
Discussions will focus on major aspects of event organisation, including venue standards, athlete welfare, transportation logistics, security coordination, medical support services and other essential components required to deliver a world-class sporting event.
The programme will also feature a courtesy visit to the Governor of Lagos State, reinforcing the collaborative partnership between the National Sports Commission and the Lagos State Government in hosting the historic first edition of the Games.
The NSC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the National Intermediate Games become a sustainable platform for discovering emerging talents, nurturing future champions and promoting sports development at the grassroots level across Nigeria.
