The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed Engr. Elekwachi Chukwudi Dimkpa as the President of the Nigeria Karate Federation (NKF), bringing to a close the leadership dispute that has trailed the federation since its election last year.
The Commission said the decision underscores its commitment to ensuring fairness, equity and justice in the governance of sports federations across the country.
Engr. Dimkpa, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (FNIEEE), is an accomplished engineer, business executive, sports administrator and public servant with extensive experience in leadership and organisational development.
Before emerging as President, he served as the South-South Chairman and Board Member of the Nigeria Karate Federation, where he contributed to policy formulation, athlete development, sponsorship and the overall growth of karate in Nigeria.
Over the years, Dimkpa has invested personal resources in organising national and regional karate championships, supported Team Nigeria’s participation at major international competitions and championed initiatives aimed at improving the administration and standard of the sport.
The Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, said the Commission would continue to uphold transparency and due process in the administration of sports federations to ensure effective governance.
Olopade also appealed to all stakeholders in the karate community to embrace reconciliation, peace and unity in the interest of the sport.
He urged the newly reaffirmed President to operate an open-door policy by carrying all stakeholders along in efforts to reposition karate for greater success.
The NSC expressed confidence that Dimkpa’s leadership experience, strategic vision and commitment to the development of karate would strengthen the federation and accelerate the growth of the sport both nationally and internationally.
