The National Institute for Sports (NIS), in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, will commence an eight-week Summer Basic Coaching Programme in Uyo as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots sports development and expand access to quality coaching education across Nigeria.
The programme, which falls under the NIS South-South Zonal Centre headquartered in Benin City, Edo State, is designed to equip aspiring and practicing coaches with essential coaching skills and professional knowledge.
Participants will receive training in the fundamentals of sports coaching, practical coaching techniques, drill organisation, exercise planning and competition management. Successful participants will be awarded an NIS Certificate of Participation/Completion.
The programme is open to football coaches, grassroots coaches, sports academy instructors, youth leaders, retired athletes, club coaches, sports administrators, graduates seeking careers in sports coaching, and other individuals interested in developing a solid foundation in coaching.
According to the Institute, the initiative is part of its mandate to promote sports development through quality education and capacity building while taking coaching education closer to communities across the country.
Under the leadership of the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the NIS, Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Institute has intensified efforts to expand coaching education through its zonal centres and strategic partnerships aimed at producing skilled coaches and nurturing sporting talent nationwide.
The Institute said interested participants are encouraged to register, adding that further details on the commencement of the programme will be announced in due course.
