The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Nigerians living abroad to continue projecting a positive image of the country by celebrating its achievements and serving as worthy ambassadors wherever they reside.
Dabiri-Erewa made the appeal during a visit to two distinguished Nigerians in the United Kingdom — Christopher Adegoke, Chairman of the Nottinghamshire County Council, and Rosaline Oguro, the Mayor of Islington Council.
She described Adegoke’s emergence as the first person from an ethnic minority background to chair the Nottinghamshire County Council since its establishment in 1889 as a testament to the resilience, excellence and leadership qualities of Nigerians in the diaspora.
Speaking during the visit, Mayor Oguro expressed appreciation to the NiDCOM boss and encouraged Nigerians across the world to continue portraying the country positively through their conduct and achievements.
Dabiri-Erewa also celebrated the exceptional academic accomplishments of Dorcas Akanbi, who graduated from Rostov State Medical University with an outstanding 4.90/5.00 CGPA, and Monilola Adeshina, who emerged as the valedictorian and best graduating student of the Medical Class of 2026 at Medical University of Silesia.
According to her, the outstanding performances of the two medical graduates underscore the brilliance, determination and global competitiveness of Nigerian youths, while further enhancing the country’s reputation internationally.
The NiDCOM chairman commended all four Nigerians for making the nation proud and urged others in the diaspora to pursue excellence while remaining committed ambassadors of Nigeria.
She stressed that although every nation faces challenges, Nigerians should deliberately highlight the country’s success stories and the remarkable contributions of its citizens around the world.
Dabiri-Erewa also noted that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing reforms and critical infrastructure projects aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable development and economic growth.
She called on Nigerians in the diaspora to continue contributing to national development through their expertise, investments, skills and international networks.
The NiDCOM boss reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to recognising and engaging outstanding Nigerians abroad whose achievements continue to enhance Nigeria’s image on the global stage.
