The Nigerian Embassy in Hungary has stepped up efforts to expand educational opportunities for Nigerian youths through the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme following a visit to the University of Dunaújváros (DUE).

The visit formed part of the embassy’s ongoing school visitation and scholarship drive aimed at strengthening academic cooperation and creating more opportunities for Nigerian students to pursue higher education in Hungary.

The Nigerian delegation was led by Ambassador Abasi Braimah Ogwime and included the embassy’s Social Secretary, Dr Erika Madarász, and Daniel Etawo.

The delegation was received by the university’s management team, led by the Vice-Rector for Institutional Development and General Affairs, Dr Mónika Rajcsányi-Molnár.

Other university officials at the meeting included the Vice-Rector for Education, Dr László Balázs; Director of International Relations, Kitti Szabó; Director of Strategic Relations, József Fritz; and Social Relations Officer, Csaba Papp.

During the engagement, the university’s management provided information on its international degree programmes, scholarship opportunities under the Stipendium Hungaricum scheme, and support services available to international students.

The discussions focused on opportunities for Nigerian students to access quality higher education and benefit from Hungary’s academic and professional training programmes.

As part of the visit, the Nigerian delegation toured the university’s facilities, including its laboratories, where members interacted with lecturers and Nigerian students.

The tour provided the delegation with first-hand insight into the institution’s academic environment, facilities and the experiences of Nigerian students studying there.

The university disclosed that 11 Nigerian students are currently enrolled at the institution, with six benefiting from the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme.

Computer Engineering accounts for the largest share of Nigerian students at the university, while others are studying Business Administration and Management, as well as Communication and Media Science.

The visit underscores the Nigerian Embassy’s commitment to promoting international educational partnerships and encouraging more Nigerian youths to take advantage of scholarship opportunities available in Hungary.

It is also expected to deepen engagement between the embassy and the university, potentially opening additional pathways for Nigerian students seeking international academic qualifications and professional development.
