The National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), has called for greater patriotism, responsible communication and positive representation of Nigeria to strengthen the country’s international image and diplomatic relations.
The association made the call during an engagement with the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu, in Abuja, tagged “An Evening with the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency.”
The meeting focused on the need for collaboration between NACCIMA and the NOA to promote responsible citizenship and encourage Nigerians at home and abroad to project a positive image of the country in their interactions with the international community.
NACCIMA noted that patriotism, cultural understanding and constructive international engagement were essential to strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic relations, attracting foreign investment, expanding trade opportunities and building sustainable economic partnerships.
The delegation, representing NACCIMA National President, Engr. Jani Ibrahim, comprised the association’s China Relations Executive, Arc. Zakirudeen Oladotun; National Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Madinat Adigun-Oladotun; and communications specialist, Mr. Ismail Omipidan.
During the engagement, the association expressed concern over the circulation of misleading narratives, alleged blackmail of international partners and irresponsible public statements that could undermine Nigeria’s diplomatic relationships and economic interests.
It stressed that every Nigerian has a responsibility to protect the country’s reputation and contribute to its standing as a credible partner in the global community.
The association commended Issa-Onilu for granting the delegation an audience and expressing willingness to consider its proposed initiative.
It also acknowledged the NOA’s efforts to promote citizenship values among young Nigerians, noting that the agency’s programmes on patriotism, value reorientation and public communication were important to building an informed citizenry.
NACCIMA said it was looking forward to a strategic partnership with the agency to develop public enlightenment programmes on responsible international engagement, national image management and cultural diplomacy.
The proposed campaign is expected to involve business communities, young people, media practitioners, professional associations and other stakeholders in promoting informed public discourse and constructive representation of Nigeria.
According to the association, the country’s international reputation remains an important asset in attracting foreign investors, facilitating business partnerships and opening new markets for Nigerian products and services.
It added that stronger cooperation between NACCIMA and the NOA could help foster a national outlook that encourages citizens to build bridges with other countries while advancing Nigeria’s economic and diplomatic interests.
The engagement marks a step towards exploring a common approach to promoting patriotism, responsible global citizenship and positive international relations.
The statement was signed by Hajia Madinat Adigun-Oladotun, NACCIMA’s Public Relations Officer.
