The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated the Government and people of Indonesia on the country’s 81st Independence Anniversary, describing Indonesia as an important partner in Southeast Asia and a valued member of the Global South.
In a statement issued by the Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa on Monday, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, conveyed Nigeria’s warm felicitations and best wishes to the Indonesian Government and people on the significant national occasion.
Nigeria joined Indonesia in commemorating the proclamation of its independence on August 17, 1945, while celebrating the country’s journey of nation-building, resilience, economic transformation and development.
The Ministry said Nigeria and Indonesia enjoy cordial and longstanding relations based on mutual respect, shared interests and a common commitment to peaceful coexistence, multilateralism and international cooperation.
According to the statement, Nigeria appreciates Indonesia’s constructive role in regional and global affairs, particularly its advocacy for dialogue, peace and cooperation among nations.
The Federal Government also expressed its readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation with Indonesia in key sectors including trade and investment, agriculture, energy, manufacturing, digital technology, education, healthcare and maritime cooperation.
It noted that stronger private-sector engagement between both countries could boost investment, facilitate technology transfer, stimulate economic growth and create new opportunities for Nigerians and Indonesians.
As prominent members of the Global South, Nigeria and Indonesia, the statement added, share common interests in promoting sustainable development, strengthening food and energy security, tackling climate change and advancing a more equitable international economic and political order.
Nigeria further stressed the importance of strengthening multilateral institutions and promoting the interests of developing countries in the global system.
The Federal Government also called for increased people-to-people exchanges through education, culture, tourism, sports, youth development and professional cooperation, noting that such engagements would promote greater mutual understanding and reinforce the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
Nigeria, the statement said, looks forward to working closely with Indonesia to expand bilateral cooperation and strengthen collaboration on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
The Federal Government once again congratulated the Government and people of Indonesia on the anniversary and wished the country continued peace, unity, stability, prosperity and sustainable development.
