Nigeria Condoles Venezuela Over Devastating Twin Earthquakes in Caracas

The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the Government and people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela following the devastating twin earthquakes that struck the nation’s capital, Caracas, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

The earthquakes, which measured significant magnitudes and were felt across several regions of the country, caused widespread panic as buildings shook violently, forcing residents to flee homes, offices, and public facilities.

 

Preliminary reports indicated that dozens of people were killed, many others injured, and critical infrastructure damaged. Rescue teams, emergency workers, and humanitarian agencies were immediately deployed to affected areas to search for survivors, provide medical assistance, and assess the extent of the destruction. Authorities have since intensified relief efforts while urging citizens to remain vigilant amid concerns over possible aftershocks.

In a statement signed by the Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja on Thursday, Nigeria described the disaster as a tragic event that resulted in significant loss of lives, injuries, and widespread destruction, leaving many families and communities in mourning.

The government said it was deeply saddened by the natural disaster and reaffirmed its solidarity with Venezuela during the difficult period. Nigeria also commended the courage and commitment of emergency responders, rescue workers, medical personnel, and volunteers involved in ongoing search, rescue, and humanitarian operations.

According to the statement, Nigeria extended its sincere condolences to families who lost loved ones and wished those injured a speedy and full recovery.

The Federal Government expressed confidence in the resilience of the Venezuelan people, noting that they would overcome the tragedy through unity, determination, and support from the international community.
Nigeria further reiterated its support for the Government of Venezuela and expressed hope that ongoing rescue, relief, and reconstruction efforts would bring comfort, recovery, and restoration to the affected communities.
