NDIC to Host IADI Africa Regional Meeting on Deposit Insurance, Financial Stability in Abuja

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), is set to host the 2026 Annual Meeting and Workshop of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), Africa Regional Committee (ARC), in Abuja from July 20 to 23, bringing together top financial regulators and deposit insurance experts from across Africa to strengthen crisis preparedness and financial system stability.
The four-day high-level gathering, themed “Safeguarding Stability: Public Awareness and Crisis Readiness for a Stronger Future,” will convene chief executives, directors, and senior officials of deposit insurance institutions, financial regulators, and other stakeholders within the financial safety-net ecosystem.
According to the NDIC, participants will examine strategies for enhancing public awareness and strengthening crisis preparedness in deposit insurance systems in line with the revised IADI Core Principles.
Discussions will focus on building and sustaining depositor confidence, improving communication with the public, enhancing collaboration among financial safety-net institutions, and equipping deposit insurers with practical tools for crisis management and bank resolution.
The workshop will also provide a platform for peer learning and the exchange of best practices while addressing emerging risks such as financial technology innovations and cyber threats to improve regional frameworks for crisis response.
Activities lined up for the event include technical committee meetings, plenary sessions, interactive roundtable discussions, and simulation exercises designed to assess institutional readiness and response capabilities during financial crises.
The event will be declared open by Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), while the keynote address is expected to be delivered by Taiwo Oyedele.
Other expected dignitaries include Eva Hüpkes, Secretary General of IADI, and Julia Oyet.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDIC, Thompson Oludare Sunday, will serve as the Chief Host of the conference.
The meeting is expected to reinforce regional cooperation among African deposit insurers and strengthen the resilience of financial systems through improved public confidence, effective crisis communication, and coordinated response mechanisms.
