The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has reinforced its commitment to digital inclusion and youth empowerment by supporting efforts aimed at equipping young girls with technology skills and encouraging greater participation in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.

The Commission’s support came through the eBusinessLife Girls in ICT campaign, an initiative designed to inspire female students to explore opportunities in technology, innovation and digital entrepreneurship.

Organised by eBusiness Life Communication Limited, the programme seeks to bridge the gender gap in ICT by exposing young girls to emerging digital opportunities and providing them with the knowledge, mentorship and practical experiences needed to thrive in the technology ecosystem.

Speaking on the importance of the initiative, stakeholders emphasized that empowering girls with digital skills is critical to building a more inclusive and competitive economy. They noted that increased female participation in technology-related professions would not only create more opportunities for women but also contribute significantly to national development.

Chief Executive Officer of eBusiness Life Communication Limited and Convener of the campaign, Ufuoma Emuophedaro, said the programme was established to encourage girls to see themselves as future innovators, tech entrepreneurs and leaders in the digital economy.

She stressed the need for sustained collaboration among government institutions, schools, industry players and development partners to create an enabling environment for young girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

According to her, exposing girls to technology at an early stage will help build confidence, spark innovation and prepare them for leadership roles in an increasingly digital world.

The NCC said its involvement aligns with its broader mandate of promoting digital literacy, innovation and equitable access to opportunities across Nigeria’s telecommunications and technology sectors.

Over the years, the Girls in ICT campaign has provided a platform for students, educators, policymakers, telecommunications operators and technology firms to interact, share knowledge and encourage more girls to embrace technology-driven careers.

Participants have benefited from mentorship sessions, career guidance programmes, hands-on technology demonstrations and interactive learning experiences aimed at nurturing interest in ICT.

The initiative also supports the global objective championed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to encourage girls and young women to pursue careers in technology and play active roles in shaping the future of the digital economy.
