NCAA Appeals to Aviation Unions to Suspend Industrial Action, Assures Passengers of Flight Safety

ABUJA — The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has appealed to aviation unions to suspend their ongoing industrial action and exercise restraint pending the return of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, who is working to resolve the issues behind the dispute.
The NCAA, in a statement signed by its Director General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Ona Najomo, said it was aware of the impact of the industrial action on passengers and other aviation stakeholders.
According to the Authority, the issues would have been addressed at a meeting convened by the Minister last week, but the meeting could not hold because airline operators failed to honour the invitation.
The NCAA urged all parties to embrace dialogue and cooperation, expressing confidence that the dispute would be resolved shortly and that normal flight operations would resume as soon as practicable.
The Authority also assured the travelling public that flight safety remained uncompromised, stressing that it continued to discharge its statutory safety oversight responsibilities.

The aviation regulator regretted the inconvenience caused to passengers by the industrial action and appealed for patience and understanding as efforts continued to resolve the impasse.
