Ministry of Foreign Affairs Warns Against Fake Social Media Accounts Impersonating Permanent Secretary

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja has issued a public alert regarding fake social media accounts impersonating Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, PhD, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry. These accounts are reportedly soliciting personal favors, financial gains, and making false promises of contract awards to unsuspecting members of the public.

In a press release signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja today noted that the Ministry has confirmed that Ambassador Ahmed does not own or operate any personal social media accounts for official or professional purposes.

“All official communications from the Office of the Permanent Secretary are disseminated through the Ministry’s verified channels, including
– Official website: (https://www.foreignaffairs.gov.ng), and Official social media handles

The Ministry advises the diplomatic community and the general public to exercise utmost caution and disregard any communication or request from these fake accounts.

Kimiebi urged the public to report any such fake accounts or impersonation attempts to the relevant social media platforms for immediate takedown and to the Nigerian Police Force via the Cybercrime Unit.

“The Ministry is working with relevant security and regulatory agencies to thoroughly investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice. The Federal Government of Nigeria remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency in its operations and will not tolerate actions aimed at defrauding citizens and undermining public trust”, he concluded
