MEDIA LUNCHEON: NSCC Appreciates the Media Efforts and  Partnership

The National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) on Friday, 9th June in Abuja held a media luncheon to appreciate the immense support it has received in two years of the Centre’s existence and to discuss further ways of collaboration and possible mutual support.

In her welcome address, the Director General, National Senior Citizens Center Emem Omokaro noted that the media has magnified the center’s little efforts by helping the Nigeria citizens to know what the centre is and their activities.

Dr Omokaro also welcomed the journalists who are 60 years and above to be part of the NSCC family and assured them of graceful ageing.

She noted that the act establishing NSCC enacted in 2017 but the board was inaugurated in 2021 and the Centre took off officially in June 2021.

The DG enlightened that the mandate is to identify the needs of senior citizens and to cater for them, come up with  social programs, research, building data system among others.

She disclosed that the centre is developing a standard operational manual for geriatric social care and a curriculum for certification in Nigeria.

The DG made known that so far the centre has 40 ageing desk in MDAs.

From the just launched continuing engagement bureau, NSCC discovered that about 70% of people aged 60 are still engaged.
