VALIDATION OF DRAFT: NSCC DG Calls in Partners to Bring Benchmark Standard in Curriculum

The Director General, National Senior Citizens Centre, NSCC, Dr Emem Omokaro has called on partners to ensure that they bring in benchmark standards in Curriculum for caregivers and guidelines for standardize pay agency facilities and operators.

Dr. Emem made this call Monday, 15th May 2023, in Expert/Stakeholders Meeting on Validation of Draft National Benchmark Statement and Maximum Standard in Curriculum for Training Older People Care Givers and Guidelines for Care Facility.

Dr Emem hopes that NSCC, in no time the Agency should come up with modes of care where care givers can be employed and deployed to communities and homes of the older people.

She states that, their mandate is to ensure that they put in framework, which is making the care of older person premium and to be able to prepare guidelines and standard for certain final product that will meet global standard.

Stressing further, she said, the Health Insurance Authority Agency can now work with National Senior Citizens Centre, and with NBTE first to classify the care, setting, skills and to ensure that the skills are recognized and frame work to progression.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affair,Disaster Management and Social Development, Dr Nazir Sani Gwarzo, represented by Chief Social welfare Officer, Joseph Dzungwe, expressed joy and gratitude to God for the privilege to share in the first ever draft in the National benchmark statement and maximum standard, to enable the training of caregivers and agencies, hoping that care goes to older persons in Nigeria.

He said, this mark another milestone in their determination and commitment to addressing the absence of caregivers to their senior citizens who require such.

He urges government despite the scarcity of resources to play its role in prioritizing the to safety population as professional population of caregivers is far becoming a global phenomenon

The Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affair, said they stand to remit their chances of sustainable human development of ageing population if they do not make conscious effort to recognize the well being of the vulnerable group.
