Marwa Emphasizes Importance of Training in War Against Drugs, As Germany/ NDLEA Partner to Enhance Capacity

Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, has emphasized the importance of continuous training in the fight against drug cartels. This came as 23 NDLEA officers graduated from an intensive training program sponsored by the German government.

The training, which was held at the NDLEA’s national headquarters in Abuja, covered key areas such as crime scene investigations and the West Africa Police Investigation System (WAPIS). The program was organized by the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and was attended by top management from the NDLEA and German instructors.

Marwa noted that the professionalism of human resources is crucial in tackling the drug challenge, and that training is essential in achieving this. He expressed appreciation for the German government’s support, stating that the training has strengthened not only Nigeria’s fight against drug trafficking but also the global framework for combating this menace.

The German government’s representative, Ms. Uduak Abasi Akpabio, also highlighted the importance of the training program, stating that it reflects the German government’s commitment to fostering stability and addressing the menace of international drug trafficking.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to the participants, as well as a donation of kits and resources for substance testing to the NDLEA.
