The Marvellous Friends Fellowship has reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian service, with its President, Dame Christy Tumini Akogun, declaring that the organisation has transformed friendship into service and compassion into practical action in its 14 years of existence.
Akogun made the declaration during the Fellowship’s 14th anniversary celebration in Abuja, where she highlighted its interventions in support of widows, vulnerable children, older persons, persons with disabilities and disadvantaged families.
She described the anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate lives impacted, burdens lifted and hope restored through the organisation’s humanitarian activities.
According to her, the Fellowship was established 14 years ago on the belief that women united by faith and a shared passion for humanity could extend their love and support beyond themselves to make meaningful contributions to society.
Humanitarian Interventions
Highlighting the organisation’s achievements, Akogun said it had consistently provided assistance to vulnerable families and supported the education of disadvantaged children within its available resources.
She particularly cited a recent outreach programme held in Kabusa on October 22, 2026, where food items, clothing, scholarships and working tools were distributed to beneficiaries to improve their living conditions and promote self-reliance.
“Each outreach has reaffirmed a simple truth: behind every statistic is a human being, behind every need is a story, and behind every helping hand is the possibility of a new beginning in Christ,” she said.
The Fellowship’s president noted that the anniversary came amid economic difficulties confronting many Nigerian households, including rising food, education and healthcare costs, as well as growing unemployment.
She said widows, young people and persons with disabilities were particularly affected by the prevailing economic realities.
Akogun stressed that humanitarian service must go beyond expressions of sympathy to providing practical assistance and sustainable support for those in need.
She added that individuals and organisations could make meaningful differences by helping disadvantaged children remain in school, supporting widows to rebuild their livelihoods and assisting struggling families.
Commends First Lady, Humanitarian Affairs Minister, Others
The Fellowship president expressed appreciation to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her contributions and support towards the organisation’s humanitarian mission.
She also acknowledged the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Bernard M. Doro, for his donation and support, as well as Professor John Kennedy Opara for his assistance and hospitality during the Fellowship’s visit to his farm.
Akogun equally appreciated donors, sponsors, partners, volunteers and well-wishers whose contributions had sustained the organisation’s activities over the years.
She commended members of the Fellowship for their sacrifices, prayers, financial contributions and dedication to advancing its humanitarian vision.
Seeks Partnerships to Expand Outreach
Looking ahead, Akogun called for stronger partnerships with corporate organisations, foundations, development partners and well-meaning Nigerians to enable the Fellowship to extend its interventions to more vulnerable communities.
She said the organisation required increased institutional support, financial and material contributions, skills development programmes, mentorship, educational assistance and equipment to promote sustainable livelihoods.
“We welcome partnerships that treat vulnerable people not as objects of pity, but as individuals with dignity, abilities and aspirations, and that help them regain confidence, independence, and hope,” she stated.
She emphasised that strategic partnerships and collective responsibility would strengthen the organisation’s capacity to create sustainable opportunities and improve the living conditions of disadvantaged Nigerians.
Reaffirms Commitment to Service
Akogun urged members and guests to use the anniversary as an opportunity to renew their commitment to kindness, generosity and service to humanity.
She called for continued support for people experiencing hardship, loneliness and grief, stressing the importance of giving, inclusion and compassion in building a better society.
The Fellowship president also prayed for God’s blessings on its donors, members, volunteers and beneficiaries, while seeking lasting peace, justice, opportunities and prosperity for Nigeria.
She reaffirmed the organisation’s determination to sustain its humanitarian mission and reach more people in need.
