Kenya Airways Faces Sanctions Over Consumer Protection Infractions

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has imposed sanctions on Kenya Airways following consumer protection-related infractions. The airline has been fined and directed to pay refunds and compensation to affected passengers.


The sanctions stem from cases involving Gloria Omisore and two other passengers who experienced issues with the airline, including:

  • Failure to Provide Full Disclosure of Terms of Carriage
  • Failure to Process Refund and Compensation
  • Lost Baggage
  • Failure to Respond to the Authority’s Request

Kenya Airways has been fined in accordance with the NCAA Regulations 2023. Additionally, the airline has been directed to:

  • Pay Refunds and Compensation: 1000 special drawing rights to the affected passengers within 7 days
  • Comply with the Letter: Failure to comply will attract stiffer penalties


The NCAA’s action demonstrates its commitment to protecting consumers’ rights in the aviation industry. The authority’s director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, conveyed the sanctions to the airline.
