Jordan Nwora Basketball Camp Opening Doors to Global Opportunities — Ahmedu

President of FIBA Africa Zone 3, Retired Colonel Sam Ahmedu, has described the Jordan Nwora Basketball Camp as a transformative platform capable of producing the next generation of basketball stars across Africa.
Speaking during the opening day of the camp in Lagos, Ahmedu said the initiative was designed not only to improve the technical abilities of young players but also to expose them to life-changing educational and sporting opportunities.
According to him, the camp has continued to serve as a talent pipeline, identifying promising athletes and connecting them with pathways that could lead to professional careers and scholarship opportunities both within and outside Nigeria.
“Our mission is simple: teach the fundamentals, identify talent, and provide opportunities. We have seen gifted youngsters emerge from different countries, and we are determined to help them develop into complete players capable of competing at higher levels,” Ahmedu said.
The veteran sports administrator recalled his own experience as a young basketball player, noting that a lack of developmental programmes and organized camps limited the opportunities available to aspiring athletes during his era.
“When I was growing up, these opportunities simply did not exist. Many talented players never got the exposure they deserved. Today’s camps provide young athletes with access to quality coaching, mentorship, and visibility, which are critical ingredients for success in modern basketball,” he explained.
Ahmedu expressed satisfaction with the turnout and level of participation on the opening day, describing it as a reflection of the growing interest in basketball among Nigerian youths.
“The response has been fantastic. Seeing so many young people eager to learn and improve is encouraging. Programmes like this help keep them focused, disciplined, and committed to positive goals while pursuing their sporting dreams,” he said.
He further disclosed that outstanding performers from the camp could benefit from scholarship opportunities and additional developmental programmes aimed at accelerating their growth.
“For exceptional talents, opportunities will come. Some will earn scholarships in Nigeria, while others may secure placements abroad. What is important is building a strong foundation because once that foundation is in place, there is virtually no limit to what they can achieve,” he added.
The Jordan Nwora Basketball Camp has attracted hundreds of young players seeking to sharpen their skills, learn from experienced coaches, and position themselves for future opportunities in the sport.
