INEC MOURNS MRS. ESTHER UZOMAH

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says the Commission has expressed shock over the death of Esther Uzoma which sad event reportedly occurred on Wednesday 6, January 6, 2021.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), received with shock, the death of Esther Uzoma which sad event reportedly occurred on Wednesday 6, January 2021.”

INEC noted that Esther Uzoma was a renowned gender rights advocate and civil society activist and a tireless campaigner for credible elections in Nigeria. She was until her death the National Coordinator of Proactive Gender Initiative and the Convener of the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room. She has worked closely with the Commission in the areas of election observation, constitutional and electoral reforms as well as in capacity building for staff of the Commission. Esther championed good causes and spent a considerable portion of her life fighting for a better society. The country has lost a courageous and vibrant civil society leader.

“The Commission commiserates with members of her immediate family, her friends and the civil society community for this irreparable loss. Esther Uzoma will be remembered for her commitment to a better Nigeria”, the statement added.

Barrister Esther Uzoma was born in Nigeria. She was a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Professional Female Lawyer and a Social Right Activist.
