Ibadan Inland Dry Port To Take Off Soon – Oyo Govt

Oyo state government has entered into partnership with the Nigerian Shippers council for the development of lbadan inland dry port and truck transit park at olorisaoko along Iseyin -Ibadan road under a public private partnership(PPP) arrangement.

The partnership arrangement was unfolded during a courtesy visit to the council by the state delegates led by the Executive Assistant on Bureau of Investment Private Partnership, Mr. Segun Ogunwuyi.

He said the collaboration with the Nigerian Shippers Council on the establishment of the IIDP would bring about a lot of developments to the Nigeria economy, stressing that Oyo State was critical to the development of transportation in view of its strategic location .

Ogunwuyi noted that the establishment of the IIDP in the state would provide job opportunities and create wealth for people of the state as transportation remains a driving force in the promotion of national economy .

Earlier in his address , the Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Shippers’ Conucil, Mr . Hassan Bello said the project would gulp N4.8bn through the Public Private Partnership arrangement, adding that the facilities will have shopping mall, hotels, motels, worship centre, commercial banks, restaurants among others.

“The Federal Government since 2006 had taken a decision to establish the IDPs in the six geo-political zone , the ongoing rail project being championed by the Ministry of Transportation will be a big boost to the IIDPs as it will help decongest the heavy traffic on the road as well as facilitate easy movement of goods from Lagos ports to different locations in the country ” Bello said.

He noted that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed recently with the Chinese investors for the development of Ibadan IDP project, adding that the interest shown by the investors was in consideration of the strategic importance of Ibadan and the project would cause a remarkable reduction in road carnage, improvement in economic activities and job opportunities.
