House of Representatives gives kudos to Programs, Services and Initiatives by NSCC

The House of Representatives Committee on Disabilities, has applauded achievements recorded by the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), through partnerships, programs and initiatives targeted at engaging Senior Citizens in human capital, income security and social development.

Chairman of the Committee, Dr Bashiru Dawodu, Deputy Chairman, Sani Adamu Wakili and a member of the Committee Adefiranye Ayodele Festus were speaking during the House Committee’s familiarization visit to the Head Office of the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) in Abuja.

They assured NSCC that the Committee will garner the support of the House of Representatives to enable the National Senior Citizens Centre achieve its set targets aimed at improving the quality of life and wellbeing of senior citizens in Nigeria.

Chairman of the House Committee on Disabilities, Dr. Dawodu said the familiarization visit is meant to see to what the agency has attained, challenges and steps taken to improve on the existing plans.

Director General of NSCC, Dr Emem Omokaro who conducted the Chairman and members of the House of Representatives Committee on Disabilities round departments and units at NSCC Head Office said under three years of NSCC’s existence, programs and services initiated revolves around NSCC’s vision of ensuring an inclusive society where older persons can live a dignified, healthy, happy and secured life.

Dr Omokaro said the Centre has mainstreamed the geriatric population into income security, and created programs like Elder Justice Campaigns programs for rights protection, Continuing Engagement Bureau Program gainful employment of senior citizens, Care Quality Assurance for Geriatric Social Care Skills Sector among others.

On strategic engagement mechanism and advocacy, she said NSCC is in touch with older persons across the 36 states including FCT and 774 local government areas through the States Stakeholders Consultative Forums on Ageing structured within the Sustainable Development Goals Mantra.
