FOOTBALL: Flamingos Clinch World Cup Ticket

Nigeria’s Under-17 side, also known as the Flamingos have secured a place in the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup slated for India later in the year.
They did this after playing out a goaless draw against Ethiopia in the second leg of the qualifiers at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Saturday, June 4, 2022 thereby qualifying with a 1-0 aggregate.
The flamingos who were impressive both in attack and in defense scored a total of 15 goals in 6 qualifying matches without a defeat and conceding none.
Africa will have three teams representing the continent at the competition which will run from October 11 to 30.
The 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be the 7th edition which is contested by the under-17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA, since its inception in 2008.
It will be the second time that India host a FIFA tournament after the men’s 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, and the first time that India host a FIFA women’s football tournament.
