Federal Ministry of Transportation Debunks Fake News on $3 Billion Railway Project Diversion
The Federal Ministry of Transportation has issued a rejoinder to dismiss allegations made by Sahara Reporters that the Transport Minister diverted a $3 billion railway project from the South-East to Gombe State for political gain. According to Janet McDickson, Director of Information and PR/Head of Press, the report is “false, malicious, and misleading”
The Ministry clarified that the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri narrow gauge railway rehabilitation project was awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation in November 2020. The project has made significant progress, with rehabilitation works completed from Port Harcourt to Aba and ongoing from Aba to Enugu.
The Ministry attributed the slow pace of work to a lack of funds and assured that they are working diligently with the contractor to secure necessary funding. McDickson emphasized that the Ministry is committed to connecting the entire country through the rail sector, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
