In commemoration of the United Nations’ Anti Corruption Day which comes up on 9th December of every year, the Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC) of Nigeria, carried out an anti corruption sensitization rally in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to help fight corruption in the country.

The anti- corruption walk which took place on Monday from Wuse through the Eagle Square to the Aso Villa, Abuja was organised by the EFCC alongside some establishments in the Transport sector.

The sensitization road walk titled: “Say No to Corruption, Every No Counts,” was organised by the EFCC to mark the World anti-corruption day.

Speaking at the event, the Acting Chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Magu, said the rally was imperative because Nigerians had long forgotten the basic principles of being accountable to themselves and the society at large.

“There is corruption everywhere and the need to curb this menace has called for concern. Corruption is evil and must be terminated in Nigeria and should as well be tackled collectively.

“The aim of organising this event is to ensure corruption is erased totally in our country. This fight is for everybody so we all must fight for it to be eradicated.” Magu said.

Magu revealed that the rally against corruption would be a yearly event to ensure that citizens do not forget the fight against the menace. He also called for all to support the anti corruption fight because according to him, “We do not have the monopoly of knowledge to do what we are doing alone.”

“Let’s check ourselves and avoid situations that will lead to mismanagement and lack of accountability on corruption.”
The acting chairman said everyone must join in the fight against corruption because it is of national interest which supersede every other thing.
He added: “The fight against corruption has come to stay in Nigeria.”

This year the  EFCC collaborated with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).

Others are, the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT).
