The Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo has promised to address the problems facing the Northern region of Nigeria if elected into power in 2023.

Prince Adewole, who made this known during the Arewa Joint Committee interactive session with Presidential Candidates in Kaduna noted that Nigeria needs to tap into the North’s closeness to the Mediterranean for economic purposes.
He said that the region has a lot of untapped potentials in the areas of agriculture, human resources and economic viability.

On the issue of bridging the education gap between the Northern region and other regions in the country, he said: “I think we should go back to an education where there is the systematisation of the learning and retention of all kinds of skills, so majority of our people learn how to be plumbers, artisans etc”.

He added that this skills based education is what is powering the economy of Italy, to the extent that Italians who are making 90% of the income of Italy do not have a tertiary education.

He even added that “the population of the English people who have gone to University in England is smaller than the population of Nigerians who are going to the University. But in Britain, if you are looking for a plumber, you get the best plumber, if you are looking for electrician, you have the best electrician. So we must address that issue generally”.

He said that the North is blessed with so many skilled workers who have to be integrated into the system by making them become professionals in those areas they have trained.
