The Ministry of Defence has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technology, innovation and strategic partnerships to strengthen Nigeria’s defence capabilities and improve national security.

The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), OFR, stated this on Tuesday at a Dell Technologies programme themed “Innovate with Data,” held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

Musa, who was represented by his Senior Special Adviser on Technology and Innovation, Air Vice Marshal Bulus, said the ministry’s vision was built around three operational pillars aimed at strengthening the country’s defence architecture.

He identified the pillars as enhancing joint operational synergy among the Armed Forces, improving the welfare and morale of military personnel, and promoting intelligence-driven, technology-enabled defence operations.

According to the minister, the third pillar is particularly important as emerging security threats require the effective deployment of technology, intelligence and innovation to address increasingly complex challenges.

He explained that the ministry was taking deliberate steps to integrate emerging technologies into its operations through strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders in the technology industry.

Musa noted that the collaboration with Dell Technologies, including a two-day technology workshop hosted by the Ministry of Defence, reflected the government’s determination to explore innovative solutions that would enhance military effectiveness.

He stressed the importance of partnering with credible private-sector organisations with proven global expertise and a commitment to local content development.

The minister added that strengthening indigenous technological capacity and encouraging local participation were critical to achieving sustainable growth in Nigeria’s defence industry.

He expressed optimism that the workshop would provide participants with valuable knowledge, foster strategic partnerships and generate practical solutions to improve the ministry’s operational capabilities.

Musa further expressed confidence that the outcomes of the engagement would contribute to the advancement of Nigeria’s national security objectives.

The event featured a presentation by Dell Technologies on its solutions and potential areas of collaboration with the ministry.

The presentation highlighted the company’s integrated, end-to-end technology platforms, designed to provide unified solutions and enable the ministry to respond more efficiently and swiftly to operational missions.

The engagement forms part of efforts to strengthen technology-driven defence operations and improve the capacity of Nigeria’s security institutions to respond to evolving threats.
