CLEEN Foundation Holds One Day National Dialogue On Emerging Security And Governance Challenges In Nigeria

In a shocking reality, the problem of insecurity is fast becoming a common feature of our daily lives in Nigeria. She also mentioned an instance were her church member was kidnapped along Abuja – Kaduna Express way.

The Acting Executive Director CLEEN Foundation, Ruth Olofin, disclosed this statement while delivering her remarks at the one day national dialogue on emerging security challenges in Nigeria: Convening a Pathway To Solution.

On Monday the 29th November 2021, CLEEN Foundation (Center for Law Enforcement Education in Nigeria) in bids to ensure public safety and Good Governance has organized a one day National Dialogue on Emerging security and Governance challenges in Nigeria.

She stated that the dialogue is designed to engender not just discussions but thought provoking contributions and recommendations capable of addressing and ameliorating the state of public safety and security in NIGERIA. The Dialogue today brings to an end the series of regional based discussions across all geopolitical zones which were organized by CLEEN Foundation with a view to understanding subnational security governance challenges and engendering context based local solution.

Mrs Olofin said the fragility of the Nigerian state has never been more evident than now.The continuous overstretched of Nigerian security architecture remains a grave concern to Nigerians who unfortunately bears the brunt of the recent spike of insecurity and threat level in the country. The country is besieged by several security challenges from the North to the South daily threatens the very foundation of the country and survival of it people with severe implication for national development.

Mrs Olofin says that, we can not but mention the culminating effort of the government in addressing this perennial challenges. We have seen an increase budgeting over the years and acquisition of important equipment for the military surity operations in crisis-ridden states of the country. The design and enactment of policies and legal frameworks and their attempts at implementation. We have also seen the deployment of military to support the operations of the Nigerian Police Force primarily saddled with internal security in the country.
Further speaking in an interview with the press

Mrs Olofin concluded that the Roth cause of the insecurity experiencing in Nigeria is bad Governance and the and lack of transparency which have resulted to the lack of trust between the and the government. The people don’t trust the government to provide source of livelihood so they resorted to all forms of crimes. We are convinced that the outcome of today’s our deliberation will contribute to a body of policies and practice recommendations that can be used by the government in addressing the concerns about insecurity and Governance in Nigeria.

Speaking also in a key note address is Prof.
Oshita Oshita a professor of Peace and development studies University of calabar. In his lecture, he said that we have been on this matter for too long.

He asked that actions should be taken as enough have been said
“The Nigerian state is the most simplest country to govern. All the people want is fulfilment of the government campaign promises and everyone will just move on with their lives.”

In a good will message the representative of the Inspector General of police commends CLEEN Foundation for it’s laudable efforts.

He sated that they need the support of everyone in the fight against insecurity

Also speaking is the representative of the of the Nigerian Military group captain Joel Abiyoye who also stated that both current and emerging security challenges can be resolved if we are patriotic enough.
All we need is support and cooperations of every individual to resolve the security challenges in the country, he added.
