Children are Key to Preservation of National Culture and Development- Otunba Runsewe

The Director General, National Council for Arts and Culture of Nigeria (NCAC), Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, has said that children are key to the preservation of National  Culture and generational development.

Otunba Runsewe said this at the Children’s Day Cultural Fiesta organised by NCAC on Monday, May 27, to commemorate the World Children’s Day Celebration.

The event which was held at the council premises featured many schools with different cultural displays to reflect both the modern and different ways of life in Nigeria through music and drama.

Addressing the audience, the Director General noted that proper up bringing of a children should start from the homes and culture should be part of every aspect of children to guide them into the future for generational development. He advised that parents, guardians, teachers and elders should get involved in the training of children. “Children should be thoroughly guided and observed to prevent them from learning bad habits”, he said as he gave an example of child  abroad who was interrogated for taking drugs who said, that his friends told him drugs were healthy.

“One of strongest components of keeping children and youth together is respecting and understanding our culture and we have seen that in terms our heritage, our music, our dance, our food, are now being imported but what we did today is bring back our culture and our value to memories of the children.

Otunba said that NCAC will continue to preserve and promote Nigerian arts and culture as part of world heritage.

He thanked the media for the constant coverage of NCAC events and requested for more collaboration with the council.

This is the second edition of the NCAC Children’s Day Cultural Fiesta which started last year. This year featured spectacular performances from different schools and a guest artist by name Ashafrika Worldwide who thrilled the crowd with his talking drum ladened songs.
