Bangladesh High Commission Celebrates 99th Anniversary of Bangabandhu , National Children’s Day

Bangladesh High Commission in Nigeria has celebrated 99th Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day on Sunday 17 March, 2019.

In his welcome remark, the High Commissioner, Mr. Md. Shameem Ahsan,ndc, described the unflinching love and affection of the Father of the Nation for the children, “ that compassion that was evident in the character of Bangabandhu during his childhood shaped the fundamental trait of his political philosophy of later life and that was love for the people.”

The High Commissioner also spoke on various initiatives taken by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the welfare of the children.

Members of the community also shared their thoughts on Bangabandhu’s role in the emergence of Bangladesh.

The event was attended by children from the City of Refuge Orphanage in Abuja , who cut the cake to mark birthday of Bangabandhu.

The High Commissioner presented food items and gifts to the Orphanage.

There was placing of floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu, screening of documentary, reading out of the messages of the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs, discussion, recitation of poem and special prayer, among others.

Members of the Nigerian civil society, community members, children and their parents, commission’s officials and families were present.

The guests were served with traditional Bangladeshi cuisine.
