BANGABANDHU SPEECH: Historic 07 March Celebrated in Rome with Enthusiasm

Bangladesh Embassy in Rome observed the Historic 7 March today in a befitting manner and with great enthusiasm.
Recalling the epoch- making speech of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, delivered on 7 March 1971, all the officers and officials of the Embassy took part in hoisting the national flag at 0901 hrs. at the Chancery premises, laying floral wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation followed by a one-minute silence in remembrance of the Father of the Nation and all the heroic martyrs of the war of liberation.
In the second segment of the programme in the afternoon, the messages of this special day were read out, Bangabandhu’s historic 7 March speech was screened and a discussion session on the significance of the day was held.
The programme started in the morning with flag hoisting under the auspices of the Charge d’Affaires, Mr. Md. Jasim Uddin while all the officials remained present. Then, floral wreath was laid at the portrait of the Father of the Nation and a one-minute silence was observed remembering the Father of the Nation and his family members as well as all the heroic martyrs of liberation war. As this was a working day in the Embassy, the consular services were rendered in a regular manner while the historic 7 March speech was streamed in the large TV screen placed at the Reception which were watched by a large number of service-seekers.
In the second part of the day’s special programmes held at the Conference room of the Embassy with the Charge d’Affaires as Chair, the messages by President and Prime Minister were read out. The historic 7 March speech was also screened before the officials of the Embassy followed by presentation of an essay by First Secretary (Passport & Visa) Mr. Muhammad Saiful Islam highlighting the significance and context of the historic day.
In his speech, Charge d’Affaires paid deep tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, three million martyrs and two hundred thousand women who sacrificed at the highest level for the country.
He noted that the Historic 7 March speech did not only motivate the Bengali nation to join the war of independence, but it would also continue to inspire the oppressed-suppressed and freedom-loving people all over the world.
Realizing the intrinsic significance, UNESCO in 2017 included the speech in the ‘Memory of the World International Register’ as a ‘World Documentary Heritage’- the Charge d’Affaires added.
