The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to increasing women’s participation in governance, promising more elective and appointive opportunities for women across the country.

Yilwatda made the pledge on Tuesday while receiving the APC National Women Leader, Dr. Mary Alile Idele, six Zonal Women Leaders, and 17 newly elected State Women Leaders at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

The delegation, led by Dr. Alile, formally introduced the newly elected state women leaders to the party chairman and discussed strategies for strengthening women’s engagement and leadership within the APC.

Speaking during the meeting, the APC chairman hailed women as the backbone of the party’s electoral successes, acknowledging their dedication to grassroots mobilization, voter outreach, and campaign activities nationwide.

He assured the women leaders that the party would deliberately create more opportunities for women in political offices and leadership positions, stressing that gender should never be a barrier to public service.

According to him, the APC is determined to increase female representation in the National Assembly, state Houses of Assembly, and key decision-making positions.
“Women are not only the pillars of our homes but also critical drivers of national development. Their contributions to our party have been immense, and we are committed to ensuring they occupy more leadership positions across the country,” he said.

Yilwatda argued that inclusion must go beyond geographical considerations, insisting that gender representation should be a key component of fairness and equity in governance.

He further pledged to champion women’s interests during appointments and the constitution of campaign councils, assuring the delegation that their voices would be heard at every level of party decision-making.

The APC chairman emphasized that empowering women today would create a stronger political future for the next generation and strengthen democratic governance in Nigeria.

Earlier, APC National Women Leader Dr. Mary Alile Idele commended Yilwatda for what she described as his inclusive and unifying leadership style, noting that his approach has inspired confidence among party members and expanded the APC’s support base.

She also expressed appreciation to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her sustained advocacy for women’s empowerment and support for female participation in politics.

Alile noted that women have remained at the forefront of the party’s electoral victories and grassroots activities despite numerous challenges, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening APC structures nationwide.

The meeting concluded with a renewed resolve by the party leadership and women stakeholders to deepen women’s political participation and consolidate the APC’s position as a leading platform for inclusive governance in Nigeria.
