The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), has initiated discussions with a leading Chinese aircraft maintenance firm, Grand China Aviation Maintenance Company Limited (GCAM), on potential investments and strategic partnerships in Nigeria’s aviation industry.

The engagement is aimed at attracting foreign direct investment, promoting local industrial capacity, facilitating technology transfer and generating employment opportunities for Nigerians.

The NACCIMA delegation, led by its National President, Engr. Jani Ibrahim, mni, OON, visited GCAM’s headquarters in Haikou, Hainan Province, China, on Friday, November 6, 2026, as part of efforts to explore mutually beneficial business opportunities.

The meeting was also attended by Nigeria’s Consul General in Guangzhou, Ambassador Mairo Musa Abbas, whose intervention facilitated the engagement on the sidelines of the 2026 Hainan Free Trade Port International Investment Cooperation Promotion Conference.

GCAM, established in 2012, is a subsidiary of HNA Technic Company Limited, under the HNA Aviation Group. The company provides specialised aircraft maintenance services, including airframe maintenance, repairs, inspections, cabin refurbishment and aircraft overhauls.

With the technical capacity to support a fleet of more than 600 aircraft, the company is regarded as a potential strategic partner for Nigeria’s growing aviation industry.

Speaking during the engagement, Ibrahim highlighted Nigeria’s huge population, expanding aviation market and strategic position in Africa as compelling reasons for the Chinese company to consider investing in the country.

He noted that Nigeria, with a population exceeding 200 million people and significant air traffic, offers considerable business opportunities for investors in aircraft maintenance and related aviation services.

“Your company has a big opportunity in Nigeria. We have the population and market potential to support your business. We are talking about a country of over 200 million people, with significant air traffic. There is a viable business opportunity for you in Nigeria, and we invite you to come and invest,” he said.

The NACCIMA President also proposed the establishment of direct flight connectivity between Nigeria and China through Hainan Province, expressing the association’s readiness to engage HNA Aviation Group towards achieving the initiative.

According to him, direct air connectivity would reduce travel time, ease movement for business travellers and tourists, and strengthen trade and investment relations between both countries.

The delegation further advocated technical partnerships between GCAM and Nigerian institutions, particularly in aircraft maintenance training, skills development and technology transfer, to equip young Nigerians with specialised expertise in the aviation industry.

In her remarks, Nigeria’s Consul General in Guangzhou, Ambassador Mairo Musa Abbas, reaffirmed the Consulate’s commitment to promoting initiatives that deepen diplomatic, commercial and economic relations between Nigeria and China.

She observed that although both countries had maintained longstanding bilateral relations, significant opportunities remained untapped in several sectors, stressing the need for stronger partnerships that would deliver tangible economic benefits to both nations.

The engagement with GCAM underscores NACCIMA’s continued efforts to connect Nigerian businesses with international investors, attract strategic partnerships and position the country as a competitive destination for sustainable foreign investment.
