President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Rt. Hon. (Engr.) Victor Ochei, Esq., FNSE, has applauded teenage tennis sensation, Seun Ogunsakin, for securing his second International Tennis Federation (ITF) J200 Boys’ Singles title of the year in Cairo, Egypt.

Ogunsakin sealed the latest triumph after defeating French opponent, Matisse Martin, 7-5, 6-3 in the final of the ITF J200 Cairo tournament, further underlining his growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s brightest prospects on the international tennis circuit.

The victory, which follows his earlier J200 title success in Cairo this year, has attracted commendation from Ochei, who described the youngster’s achievement as a significant boost to the country’s renewed ambitions in international tennis.

According to the NTF President, Ogunsakin’s consistent performances demonstrate the depth of emerging Nigerian talent and the country’s capacity to produce players capable of competing successfully at the highest levels.

He said the teenager’s achievement was a product of dedication, discipline and determination, adding that winning two J200 titles in a single year was a remarkable milestone for a young player.

Ochei noted that Ogunsakin’s latest accomplishment was part of a broader positive development in Nigerian tennis, following the promotion of the country’s men’s team to Davis Cup World Group II and the women’s team to Billie Jean King Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group II in 2026.

He described the developments as evidence that Nigerian tennis was gradually regaining international recognition through improved performances and sustained commitment to player development.

The NTF President also acknowledged the contributions of the National Sports Commission, particularly its Chairman, Malam Shehu Dikko, and Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, as well as members of the Federation’s Board, for their support towards advancing tennis in Nigeria.

Ochei reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to strengthening grassroots programmes, providing emerging players with international competitive opportunities and establishing a sustainable development structure capable of producing world-class athletes.

He stressed that the NTF’s objective was to move beyond isolated international victories and build a tennis system that would consistently produce champions capable of flying Nigeria’s flag at major global competitions.

He described Ogunsakin’s latest success as another encouraging indication that Nigerian tennis was moving in the right direction.
