The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has heightened vigilance across airport operations following a confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The authority said it was collaborating with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Port Health Services, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other relevant agencies to support ongoing efforts to contain the disease.
In a press release dated October 20, 2026, FAAN stressed that the early identification of the case and the commencement of contact tracing underscored the importance of effective public health surveillance, established safety protocols and inter-agency cooperation in responding to potential health threats.
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining heightened surveillance across Nigeria’s airports and coordinating with public health agencies to implement additional measures that may be required to protect passengers, airport personnel and the general public.
FAAN also assured the travelling public that it would continue to align its response with guidance from relevant health authorities while supporting efforts to ensure the safe operation of the country’s airports.
The authority urged passengers, airport users, airlines and other stakeholders to remain calm, vigilant and cooperative with health officials.
It further advised the public to rely on verified information from credible sources and refrain from spreading unconfirmed reports that could cause unnecessary panic.
The statement was signed by Henry Agbebire, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN.
The authority reiterated its readiness to work with relevant agencies to safeguard public health and maintain safety across Nigeria’s aviation sector.
