Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Jamaica Presents Letters of Credence to Governor-General

Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Jamaica, Her Excellency Dr. Jane Bassey Adams, has presented her Letters of Credence to the Governor-General of Jamaica, His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Linton Allen.
According to the statement signed by Oluwafemi Adeniyi, Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, on Friday, September 18, 2026, the ceremony took place at King’s House, Kingston, Jamaica, on September 10, 2026.
During the ceremony, Adams conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Jamaican Governor-General, as well as the government and people of Jamaica.
The High Commissioner described the presentation of her Letters of Credence as a significant milestone in Nigeria-Jamaica relations, stressing the enduring historical bonds, shared heritage and strong kinship between the two countries.
She highlighted the deep cultural and ancestral connections between Nigerians and Jamaicans, noting that both countries share a commitment to freedom, progress and national development.
Adams said Nigeria and Jamaica must translate their historical and cultural affinity into robust and mutually beneficial partnerships, particularly in trade and investment, health, culture, technology, tourism and education.
She pledged to work closely with the Jamaican authorities and other stakeholders to identify new areas of cooperation while strengthening existing partnerships between both countries.
According to her, her diplomatic mission would be guided by the vision of “A New Dawn” in Nigeria-Jamaica relations, with emphasis on reinvigorating bilateral engagement and converting the strong historical and cultural ties between the two nations into tangible economic and developmental outcomes.
Nigeria and Jamaica have maintained longstanding cordial relations based on shared history, mutual respect and common interests.
The two countries have, over the years, expanded cooperation in tourism, education, sports and cultural exchanges, while also working together at the multilateral level, particularly through the Commonwealth of Nations and the United Nations.
Their collaboration has included engagement on issues relating to international peace and security, sustainable development and other matters of global significance.
The Federal Government of Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Government of Jamaica to explore new opportunities for deeper bilateral cooperation and ensure that the fraternal ties between the two countries continue to produce meaningful and mutually beneficial outcomes.
