APPMEN Seeks NHRC Partnership to Promote Human Rights, Media Development

The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishment of Nigeria (APPMEN), has initiated a strategic partnership with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to strengthen human rights advocacy, responsible media practice and public awareness across the country.
The move followed a courtesy visit by an APPMEN delegation to the headquarters of the NHRC in Abuja, where discussions centred on collaboration and the Commission’s participation in the upcoming Aso APPMEN/Content Creators 2026 One-Day Conference, scheduled for September 24, 2026, in Abuja.
During the meeting, the Executive Secretary of the NHRC described the visit as timely and strategic, expressing the Commission’s readiness to work closely with APPMEN to increase public awareness of its activities and expand the reach of its human rights initiatives.
He also highlighted the need for improved funding and stronger legislative backing to enable the Commission to effectively deliver on its mandate. According to him, new initiatives, including the Human Rights Fund, Development Fund and Human Rights Emergencies Initiative, are designed to provide support for victims of floods, banditry and other humanitarian crises across Nigeria.
He appealed to individuals, organisations and stakeholders to support the Commission through donations and partnerships to enhance its capacity to protect and promote human rights.
Both organisations agreed to formalise their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with a focus on promoting human rights education, responsible journalism and national development.
APPMEN reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging its network of private media owners and content creators to amplify human rights campaigns and support the Commission’s mandate nationwide.
