TCN Strengthens Community Partnership with Afaka Youth to Protect Power Infrastructure

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with host communities as part of efforts to safeguard critical electricity transmission infrastructure and promote reliable power supply across the country.
This commitment was reiterated when the TCN Kaduna Region hosted members of the United Progressive Youth of Afaka (UPYA) on a courtesy visit to its Regional Office in Kaduna on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
The engagement focused on enhancing the existing partnership between the company and the Afaka community, promoting peaceful coexistence, and encouraging greater community participation in protecting transmission facilities while supporting sustainable local development.
Speaking during the meeting, the General Manager (Transmission), Kaduna Region, Engr. Nasir Mansur S. Fada, stressed that TCN remains committed to maintaining open communication, mutual respect, and continuous collaboration with host communities.
According to him, the company’s community engagement strategy is designed to build trust, resolve concerns through dialogue, and encourage residents to actively protect critical national power infrastructure for the benefit of all Nigerians.
On behalf of the visiting delegation, Secretary-General of the United Progressive Youth of Afaka (UPYA), Abdulhafiz Yahya, applauded TCN for its impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and consistent engagement with the community.
He assured the company of the youth group’s continued support in protecting transmission installations, describing the partnership as mutually beneficial to both the Afaka community and Nigeria’s electricity transmission network.
TCN noted that the visit reflects the success of its sustained stakeholder engagement and sensitisation programmes, which have continued to strengthen cordial relationships with communities hosting transmission infrastructure.
The company said its awareness campaigns encourage residents to view transmission facilities as shared national assets that require collective ownership and protection against vandalism and other threats.
According to TCN, strong partnerships with host communities remain critical to securing electricity transmission infrastructure, reducing vandalism, and ensuring a more reliable and resilient national power transmission system.
