The delegation engaged in a series of strategic meetings with the Local Organising Committee and conducted inspections of proposed competition and support venues expected to host athletes and officials during the Games.
Speaking during the Commission’s visit to the headquarters of the National Sports Commission (NSC), NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, said the Africa Schools Games align with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen grassroots sports development and expand the nation’s sports economy.
Dikko noted that the Games would provide a platform for discovering and nurturing young sporting talents across Africa while also showcasing Nigeria’s capacity to host major international sporting events.
Also speaking, Director-General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, expressed confidence in Nigeria’s preparations, assuring the visiting delegation that the country would deliver a world-class competition that meets international standards.
According to the Commission, the inspection visit forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure the successful hosting of the Africa Schools Games in Abuja in 2027, with key stakeholders working closely to finalize plans and infrastructure requirements for the event.
The Africa Schools Games is expected to bring together young athletes from across the continent, promoting sports development, cultural exchange and unity among African nations.
