Abuja, June 4, 2026 – The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), has joined fifteen other organisations in signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), aimed at advancing energy efficiency and sustainable development across the country.
The agreement, signed in Abuja on Thursday, marks a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between the public and private sectors in promoting energy-efficient practices, clean energy adoption, and sustainable economic growth.
Representing ACCI at the ceremony was the Executive Director of the National Policy Advocacy Centre (NPAC), Dr. Chidiebere Onwumere, while the Director of Legal Services at ECN, Barrister Abdulazeez Elamah, signed on behalf of the Commission.
The partnership establishes a framework for an Energy Efficiency Awareness and Implementation Campaign targeted at businesses nationwide. The initiative is expected to promote best practices in energy management, provide training and capacity-building programmes, facilitate access to financing for energy-efficient technologies, and encourage the adoption of renewable energy solutions within business operations.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, described the collaboration as a critical milestone in addressing Nigeria’s energy challenges through innovation, knowledge sharing, and strategic partnerships.
According to him, the agreements represent more than ceremonial commitments, serving instead as practical frameworks designed to deliver measurable outcomes that support Nigeria’s energy transition agenda and broader sustainable development objectives.
The initiative aligns with national priorities on carbon emission reduction, clean energy expansion, and improved access to modern energy services, particularly in underserved communities. Through energy audits, awareness campaigns, pilot projects, and sector-specific interventions, the partnership seeks to improve business competitiveness while fostering a more resilient and sustainable economy.
As one of the signatories, ACCI reaffirmed its commitment to mobilising the private sector, advocating supportive policies, and driving strategic collaborations that will translate the objectives of the MoU into tangible benefits for businesses and the wider Nigerian economy.
Industry stakeholders view the agreement as a significant boost to Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen energy efficiency practices, reduce operational costs for businesses, and accelerate sustainable industrial development across the country.
