The Federal Ministry of Youth Development in Nigeria has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to youth-driven climate action through a strategic partnership with the Climate Beyond Borders Caravan, a pan-African initiative focused on advancing environmental advocacy across Africa.
Speaking while receiving a delegation from the Caravan on behalf of the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Maryam Ismaila Keshinro, described climate change as an urgent challenge with serious implications for livelihoods, food security, public health, migration, peace, and economic stability across the continent.
Dr. Keshinro noted that although young people are among the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, they also represent Africa’s greatest source of innovation and sustainable solutions.
She explained that the collaboration aligns with the Ministry’s commitment to empowering Nigerian youths with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to champion climate action at community, national, and global levels.
According to her, the Climate Beyond Borders Caravan is more than a cross-country movement, describing it as a transformative initiative aimed at promoting African unity, environmental stewardship, and youth-driven development.
“Through advocacy, community engagement, policy dialogue, and cross-border partnerships, the initiative will nurture a new generation of environmentally conscious African leaders,” she stated.
The Ministry also reiterated its support for programmes that promote green innovation, environmental education, renewable energy awareness, climate entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.
Leader of the delegation, Ms. Olufunke Kumuyi, said the Caravan is mobilising young Africans toward climate advocacy, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development across the continent.
The partnership is expected to strengthen youth participation in climate governance and accelerate collective action toward a more sustainable future for Africa.
